Folks, we’ve discovered something new in internet country. Comment spam. I’ve been hit five times this weekend. Scummy posters are leaving comments in our blogs. The comment might be inocuous or innocent-appearing, but the link they give you to follow IS NOT.
I don’t get a lot of comments, and it has never been my intention to censor the comments, or to delete them. I will, however, change my intent. If you post a comment and give your address, phone number, any identification other than an email address I will, for your protection, delete the ID info. And, if you make comments that are (in MY opinion) pornographic, lewd, or obscene, I will delete them in their entirety.
That brings us to our blogspammers. The comment seems innocent enough, but if you click on the link (either in the comment or the poster’s “email” link,) it will link to a porn site. So far, all of these sites claim to be pre-teen or underage porn. I can’t verify that they are because I did not click the links to find out. I don’t support them, I don’t like them, and I’ll check daily to see if this mold grows back. If it does, I’ll delete it.
When I get advertising mail in my mailbox at home, I can either read it or throw it in the trash, but spam in my email bothers me. With regular US Postal Service mail, the sender pays for the postage, but when it comes to email I’m paying for the bandwidth to receive this trash, and I don’t like it.
And with blogspam, I not only pay for the bandwidth to receive it, but I pay the hosting fees for this scum to have free links on my site – to advertise something I do not approve of.
Maybe someday I’ll have ads on my website, but not today…and not uninvited ads…and not ads for porn.
Please, folks, if you spot something like this on my site, email me and tip me off, and don’t click on their links. They don’t deserve it.
Thanks for listening, and please be careful on the web. It seems to get dirtier every day.

Hear, hear! (or Read, Read) I really resent people who take advantage of other people’s pages or discussions. I suppose they see themselves as being clever but scummy is more the word I’d use. I also understand that some troll for email addresses at boards or other sites, which is why I try to avoid giving my email in standard email format or if it won’t accept it, give an invalid address that can only be corrected by reading the post, because actually that email address should be to teaberryva at lycos. Otherwise it makes it too easy for them to invade my mailbox– but I resent that I have to do that.
So, what IS going on with the old King’s Mountain Hospital? Who owns it now? Is it full of spookies and ghosts?
